INTER VS AC MILAN

It is a chance to pick up the first piece of silverware of the season as Inter Milan square off against AC Milan in the Italian Super Cup. AC Milan’s Serie A title defence has not gone as expected as they are currently nine points off the pace. Having already crashed out of the Coppa Italia, Wednesday’s clash might represent their only chance of picking up a trophy this season. The Rossoneri are looking slightly off colour in recent weeks having claimed just one win from their last five matches across all competitions. Among their results in that run is a 1-0 defeat to Torino in the Coppa Italia while they also fought back from two goals down to draw 2-2 at Lecce in Serie A last Saturday. Among the problems for AC Milan lately is an inability to maintain their discipline at the back. Stefano Pioli’s men are without a clean sheet in their last five matches across all competitions, conceding nine goals in that run. Having suffered defeat in the first derby of the season back in September, Inter Milan will have vengeance on their mind. The added incentive is that given how the season is panning out, this could be their only chance to claim some silverware. Inter Milan warmed up for the trip to Saudi Arabia with a hard fought 1-0 victory over Verona in a Serie A fixture on Saturday. They struck early in the contest through Lautaro Martinez and were able to hold on for the win. That victory is a continuation of Inter Milan’s fine form in recent weeks as they are unbeaten in their last 11 matches across all competitions, claiming nine wins in that run. That was also the first clean sheet for Simone Inzaghi’s men in the last three matches.
